I deleted it because there were Trojans in my computer and it was infecting my c: drive so i had to delete it, it would be nice if anyone could help me.

thank you.

I deleted my c: drive, how do i set it to default?
Not sure what you mean by 'deleted' it, unless you're saying you connected it to a different computer and whiped it.

Anyways, what you'll need to do is install windows. It's pretty simple to do, though if you don't have the drivers for your computer's hardware you'll need to find some place to download them as you may not be able to connect to the internet.

Once you have windows installed, do a web search for 'AVG FREE' and download and install it. It's a free AV program.

What is the logmon.log file in my c: drive for? The OS is WinXP SP2. The file is almost 1GB. Can I delete it?

If you have this belkin and these guys are right, looks like you can just prune it down and write protect it. I would also suggest creating a new file with notepad with the same filename as a replacement, and write protect the empty file, then deleting the 1gb file.

I've heard it used by some Printers as a way to monitor the printing port. I'd first try to set it to read-only and see if anything breaks.
Reply:You have to read it first using your notepad before deleting it. It is just a log file so yes you can delete it but since it is almost 1GB it means there's a lot of errors happening in your PC.

According to Microsoft, you should use an anit-virus to fix the file.

Alternatively you may want to look at this:

They should not be stored directly on C:. They are generally under a user's folder, which you do have access to.

I have my c drive full of hidden folders called $NtUninstall, what are those and it is safe to delete them?

DO NOT. They are hidden for a reason. They are actually critical registry files used to uninstall components in the registry left behind by programs. If you delete it, you can be stuck with a program you can't remove completely.

I have my c drive full of hidden folders called $NtUninstall, what are those and it is safe to delete them?
Don't do anything with them. That's why they're hidden.
Reply:I suggest you don't delete them because they can cause errors in your pc.
Reply:they are uninstall scripts for various programs. just leave them there

Cant delete contacts from messenger list ? ok i got the same problem u can remove the programme 1st from ur c

If your contacts reappear after delete / restart yahoo or you just can't add any ... remember this ... Yahoo has your friends list on THEIR servers .. you are sending a signal to yahoo to remove or add them .. but as usual yahoo doesn't respond ... the same way it doesn't respond when some are entering chat now ... yahoo is working on new alpha servers and login ... you can get a sneek peek at how they will work at freecreed. com ... stop trying to fix being able to add/delete contacts ... it's a YAHOO SERVER ISSUE ... you are not alone

Disc C nearly full but can't find out reason why.No 'large' programmes etc.listed so don't know what to delete
This is a very nice utility that tells you exactly where all your space is being used up:

http://www.malte-weiss.de/software/DiscS...

Also you can always buy a bigger Hard drive and using the software the new drive comes with create an exact image of the old hard drive (same OS and all your files).
Reply:buy an external harddrive. they plug in via a USB drive and go from 28mb (stick flash drive) upto 2Tb (checks LaCie's website) realistically, a 500Gb drive would cost you 70 Quid

http://www.ebuyer.com/cat/Hard-Drives/su...

now you dont need to delete anything, but a full hdd can slow down your computor.
Reply:Sounds like time to buy an add on disk - they do just fill up. System files may take up a lot of room - especially paging files and temp files (you can delete the latter but not the former safely)

How about email saved locally?
Reply:depends how large your hdd is - 8gb, 20gb 50gb?

as well as disc cleanup have you tried a defrag?

that can help by sorting everything out and can free up some space.
Reply:Delete all the useless programs and documents, also go on internet explorer and delete all the temorary files. When you delete the files EMPTY THE RECYLE BIN.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp has about 7 gigs of temp files. Delete them?

That seems like a bunch. Are all Temp files useless?

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp has about 7 gigs of temp files. Delete them?
Do they have the .tmp extension or .htm or .gif .jpg... if any of these you can delete... although you should be able to clear them all... but there's no telling what is being put there, or where they are coming from
Reply:temporary files are just little settings like on google if you click search bar you will see what your previous searches are. if you delete temp files it will get rid of the search history
Reply:this can all be deleted. a lot of this is used as an internet cache storage. it can get very large very fast if you don't ever empty it and go online a lot. in fact if you start looking throught some of the picutres you will see some of the pictures from some of the sights that you have visited.
Reply:you should 'clean' your settings every time on the net or every week. if you go to tools on your internet browser and then internet options click on that. find 'temporay internet files' under general. then click delete cookie while holding down shift, do the same with the delete files buttons while holding shift. it will say delete offline TICK THIS BOX as well! that should clean out ALL those files.

if not go to your start menu then go to accessories, then system tools then find disk cleanup. select that and it will see what it can do to help your hard drive make sure you select/untick boxes incase you need anything else keeping when it gives you the option, so you don't delete anything you need etc!

you should then click on to defragment the hard drive this will tidy up and clean the rest and organise it nice and neatly to run faster! do this overnight or while you not using the computer can take 2+ hours sometimes if you've never doen it before.

and that should sort your computer out! have fun!
Reply:The first time I went into temp files, I found more than 700 temp files. Several of these files had a .dll extension. I talked to an IT specialist, and he said to be on the safe side not to delete .dll files from here. But go ahead and delete the others.

Windows has a reputation for keeping tract of everything. Remember those times programs do not respond, and you have to go into the task manager and manually stop a running program; then you get a box asking you if you want to send or don't send a report? I found 13 such reports sitting in temp files, the smallest of which was over 1MB.
Reply:Delete all of them.

In C drive of my PC I have 3 windows folders. Does anyone know how I can delete the 2 windows that I dont need

the 3 windows folders are called 'Windows', 'Windows 2' and 'Windows 3'. 'Windows 3' is the one that I am currently using which I need, but I want to get rid of the other two windows since it is slowing down my PC.

In C drive of my PC I have 3 windows folders. Does anyone know how I can delete the 2 windows that I dont need
why do you have 3 in the first place?

firstly dont delete them, rename them and see if it impacts on any registered programmes

if all is well after thorough testing, just delete them out of explorer
Reply:windows folder is where the registry and "OS" is so maybe it is the size that prevents them being deleted or it could be that windows is scanning the folders and reading "OS" and will not delete because it cannot differentiate between an "OS" which is current and one which is redundent, so you could try opening the files and deleting each item individually but why do you think it is version 3 which you are using. Have you considered saving all the files that you want to keep on CDs/memory cards, resetting your system to factory default, and reinstalling your programmes. It might seem like a lot of trouble, but with new updates coming online all the time it might be an easier option in the long run to just start again from scratch
Reply:They are a part of your OS. As someone said, try to rename them, if they cannot be rename, prepare to live with them all. if you can rename them, they could be deleted but you have to be aware that maybe they are functional parts of your system. You choose. One question for you, when you open C drive do you see folders like programs, documents and settings. config, more and more and these three of them? At least, only one must appear, two of them must be fake.

Can you delete old inactive taskbar items on your toolbar desktop? (next to time, volume e.t.c.)?
most of this icons correspond to a specific program in your computer. if you no longer uses that program just delete them using add/remove programs in the control panel. if you still wish to use that program some time soon, you can right click on the taskbar and choose properties. customize the "hide inactive icons" section and select always hide on the program icon's behavior.
Reply:No, you cant delete them, however you can hide them...

Right click on the Taskbar %26gt; Properties %26gt; Customize

Then you can choose from:

- Always hide

- Hide when inactive

- Always show

You could try renaming the directory and see which app complains. If none, then you can likely delete it.

But PLEASE give more information when you ask such questions.

In Windows XP I want to delete a partition. Is the associated disk space automatically allocated to C:?
Hi,

If you delete an existing partition, the space will not be allocated to C: it will be shown as unpartitioned space and will be unaccessible.

Use partition magic software to extend C: drive to use all space or run fdisk after taking backup.

In my C: drive, there is a file that when I open or try to delete, access is denied.?

recently before this post, I took some measures to clean my computer of virus and grayware, which there were a lot, and did some disk defgramentation, which was at about 35 percent. The file in question is a folder named "23d54fle3dc3ebc3cba6fe0b," which has another folder inside of it named "7757c09F9d6abc44877b5." I'm pretty sure this is a virus.

In my C: drive, there is a file that when I open or try to delete, access is denied.?
no its not a virus.. its just a folder being used by the system..

when some thing is being used by some other programe.. then it says access is denied
Reply:It is used currently by O.S. or any program.. so shows access denied . But if u are sure to remove it .. then try this..

Shutdown the system...

Start in safe mode.

Now u can delete it most probably...
Reply:no, it is not a virus. I bet it is in your WINDOWS folder in your hard drive., look at its complete locatation if you don't know by right clicking it and hitting "properties" at the bottom of the list. If it is in the folder "WINDOWS" or "system32" or something, don't worry about it.

and other directories.

both should be c:\ or (drive) \windows...

neither should be on same drive/partition cause of formatting,

(2) make sure you have went to windows and downloaded all updates for your system including the drivers. Hope this helps.....
Reply:Hi

Ok , did you re-install or install either another os or the same xp ? If this is the case then i guess its that when you boot up your pc , you see 2 windows and it tells you to choose wich operating system to boot from right ? if this is the case then right click on my computer , go to properties and select advance tab , then go to startup and recovery options at the bottom and hit settings , once here , all you got to do is edit the file that says system startup and voilaa
Reply:It may not be Windows XP. You would be better off uninstalling the media player. Using the add/remove software on your control panel then using your CD ROM re-installing that component using the customise install and just select the media player. Or if it's not Windows media player. Install the media player. Go on-line, download it again and make it your default player.

Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Content %26gt; AutoComplete %26gt; Clear Forms. This will clear out ALL your autocompleted forms, such as search windows, form fill-ins, etc. You can also reset your Auto-Complete options here.

Or, to delete just a single (or a few) searches, just have them highlighted in the drop-down list and hit DELETE -- they will vanish! If you hold down the key, the whole drop-down list of searches will delete.

If you are using the Yahoo! Toolbar, I believe there is a drop-down box at the end of the search window that has the option to CLEAR SEARCHES on it.

Clearing your history only clears out the PAGE locations that you have recently visited.
Reply:Stop looking at porn.

The Windows/System 32/ directory is a repository for many system files that Windows needs in order to operate.

Misc. Info:

"A required Microsoft Windows system directory, the Windows System32 directory is often located in either C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Winnt\system32. Often, many Microsoft Windows error messages will contain the system32 directory because many of the system files Windows uses to run are stored in this directory. By itself, the System32 directory will not cause any errors unless it is missing, of course. If you are getting an error with a file in the System32 directory, search for that file."

How to delete a single character from a string in java or c++ at anyposition?

Java solution:

presuming your original String is s1 and index is the character position, we will create a string s2 containig the required content.

OK:

String s2=new String( s1.subSequence( 0,index - 1 ) ) ; //create a string containig the first part (from start to the character)

s2.concat( s1.subSequence( index+1,s1.length( ) ) ) ; //add the characters remainig from the character after index to the end of the first string.

Now s2 contains the required characters.

There a several ways of doing this..this is the one that popped in my mind right now :).

Have fun

P.S.: pay no attention to the spaces I left. Theyu are there because, without the the line doesn't display right (I think yahoo makes some subtitutions or something), so just delete the funny spaces :D

How to delete a single character from a string in java or c++ at anyposition?
First you hae to have clear concept on how string works in C++ and Java.

In C++, String is an array of charectar. So deleting is like deleting an entry from array, delete move all values after the value to be deleted one space ahead.

In Java, String is immutable, that means you can not change string. Ofcourse you can create new one whenever you need.for Java use substring method of String class to get a substring containing all previous value and another one containing all value after the charectar. Then concate those two string.

In Windows XP, are C:\Windows\Temp folder's contents safe to delete?

This folder may be used by installation/setup programs (and other programs) to store temporary data in temporary files. If you wish to delete the files in this folder, do so when not installing any software on your computer. It might be best to restart your computer prior to deleting any files in the folder. If a file in this folder is in use and has been locked by the program using it, you will not be able to delete it (you will be shown an error message), but some programs do not lock their temporary files and may crash if you delete the temporary files they are using.

In Windows XP, are C:\Windows\Temp folder's contents safe to delete?
yes it is safe, but there are two opinions: 1) clean it regularly so that you speed up your pc by deleting obsolete files, 2) do not clean it at all, while the files in it are useful for your pc (information about its activity is needed)
Reply:C:\Windows\Temp are safe to delete. Because those are data from websites you visited. The other way to delete is.

1. On Internet Explorer, go on the top and press "Tools" then "Internet Options".

2. Go click "Delete Files" and "Delete Cookies".

Thats the safe way to delete them.
Reply:Normally you can safely delete anything in there. In some cases you may not be able to so if you run into trouble, reboot and then delete. Programs will place .tmp files in that folder and if the program is open it won't let you delete everything. Just don't ever store anything you need to keep in that folder.

1 - install a good partition manager - Paragon is the best - it's not free but it's worth the money.

2 - all the following should be done as one:

a:delete the win 98 partition

b:create a new ntfs partition there and merged it with d partition

c:change the letter for xp partition from d to c

and hit Apply. All the rest should be done by the soft.
Reply:It would appear that you have dual boot Win98 and XP. When computer boot up, it will always start from C: which should be the master drive. If you do not mind have XP system in D:. You could just delete the complete Win98 from C: and then change the boot.ini in C:\ to get rid of Win98 option during booting up. One can edit this boot.ini file using Notepad or from the system property/advance page.

If you one to change the harddisk around and XP is in C:. change the D: to master and C: to slave using the jumper at the back of harddrive. Then start up with XP installation disk, navigate to Repair XP system; after that , computer will boot into XP with XP operating system in C:.
Reply:delete all files in c

simple
Reply:DO NOT delete everything on C drive as it will contain boot files that windows xp needs. However, you can delete ALL FOLDERS on c:

that includes c:\windows

delete c:\program files as long as you are certain no programs that windows xp uses are installed in that folder. Check the contents first.

Does vista sp1 delete all the stuff on ur computer, or does ur C:// drive stay the same?

same as above...can i safly install vista sp1, or do i needa backup?

Does vista sp1 delete all the stuff on ur computer, or does ur C:// drive stay the same?
The vista service pack 1 will only update your operating system and will not affect your programs/Data/ or C / Drive but making a backup and creating a restore point before installing the service pack or installing any new software is ALWAYS a very smart move as if something can go wrong then it usualy does so keep your pc protected and BACKUP.

By the way KooKees account wasnt deleted
Reply:Well i see a number of accounts have been deleted..

But if you look at who they are they are mainly Australian supporters, and those other people have supported Australia like Deep..

You have to be deaf, dumb and blind if you can not see who the lovely person that has been getting these accounts deleted,we ALL even Indian supporters know that Oz and his little follower are behind this..

How can a person who has at least 20 accounts have so much power to kick long standing member out?? Beats the hell out of me..

But most accounts have been suspended, not deleted, and i know when a few certain t/C's get their accounts back this place will be a lot better than it is now, this place is boring and very discriminative..

It is such a shame that 1 lonely little man can have such power over people in here, who does this Oz thinks he is-Mahatma Gandhi??

no thats right he was not an a/hole was he...
Reply:They were all Australians apart from Deep, so what does that tell you? It means it's Indians doing it. Deep was cancelled because he often supported Australia. He is a good friend to us %26amp; is a contact of many Aussies. It all comes down to spite, because India aren;'t winning all the time.

Edit: Slipper, they haven't all gone away, some are in a different ID.Email me?
Reply:I am appalled that the members you mentioned were deleted - they possessed good, commonsense arguments. Sometimes we did not agree but we could debate the difference without resorting to name calling and accusations over integrity. If they are gone I can see no point in remaining here.

probably virus or spyware. use spybot S%26amp;D and Adaware and AVG Antivirus to get rid of it. Try just deleting it but it might be deeper then that. you can get those programs from download.com

What was the original question? While you replied as "answered question doesn't work with me". Who recommended to delete 'National Language Support' from the registry?

In fact you should have repeated the question once again, with above scenario. You should email the person who suggested the deletion of registry entry for further help and/or guidance.

How do I delete the last node of a linked list in C programming language?

Also, how do I print a linked list in reverse order?

How do I delete the last node of a linked list in C programming language?
Starting from the first node or head node, go through the list until you get to the last node. You will know its the last node, as it will be pointing to null, or the first node, or the head node, depending on how its set up.

Whilst looping to get to the last node, you will have to keep a record of the node before the last (the node before the one you are testing).

Then all you have to do is change the reference / pointer of this second last node to what the last node pointer to, and delete the last node.

To print in reverse will require recursion, as you want to print the last first, and the first last.

You will once again need to loop until you get to the last node.

For every loop that is not the last node, recall this function with the next node.

Once the last node is found, do not call the function again, but instead print out the value of this node.

Then allow the function to end / return.

As this function now prints out the value of the node, allow the program to do so after calling the function.

Eg,

void function(node)

if node is not last

function(next node) // call the function again with the next node

end if

print value

end function
Reply:The first option you have is to implement a doubly linked list, which is a linked list that you can access from either side. This requires a bit more thinking and a bot more code.

If you just want to use the linked list you have, then use recursion.

recurse through the nodes until you reach a null pointer

when you have a null pointer, you know u are at the last node, so return with a different return value. The previous node will see this value, what it needs to do is release the memory from the other node, and then turn its pointer to null, to mark itself as the last node.

Sry I can't have precise C code, it's been a while since i used it.

A virus was found in file (C:WINDOWS\system32\0021bdl941... can I delete this file?

try desinfecting it...but if you finally can't,your only option is to delete it

system32 files are very important. But if you can't desinfect the file ,you must delete it

A virus was found in file (C:WINDOWS\system32\0021bdl941... can I delete this file?
An easier solution would be to clean the file... you can go to http://onlinescan.avast.com and then browse for the file.. this will tell you which virus the file has. Then go to http://www.avast.com to downlad a cleaner for this perticular virus. Or just download avast anti-virus and run a scan... it is probably the best free anti-virus which also does not hog your system.

Just deleting the file will not remove the virus... viruses usually respawn and in all probability you will have the same file re-appear after a re-boot.
Reply:NOOOO!

Get an antivirus and quarentene it then repair it. That file is a part of Windows itself. To delete it would cause destruction.

Can I delete my Temp files? As in the one in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp?

And the one in my other Hard Drive? Or will it screw up my computer?

Can I delete my Temp files? As in the one in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp?
yes you can and for the most part it will not harm your computer. Most programs will just re-create temp files if they are needed again. I have seen problems with having to reinstall things like earthlink or AOL when you delete these files but no big deal.
Reply:its better to delete to clean ur memorey and it makes ur computer works fast
Reply:You can. If there are any that are open and being used, the operating system won't let you, so that is safe.
Reply:If you only delete ones that the computer isn't using, then yes, it's fine. It may even speed up your computer, albeit very little.
Reply:goto your temp folder and delete the files that ONLY say .tmp
Reply:yes you can and it will not screw up the HD.
Reply:you can delete files in that area most of the time.

I edited the registry by deleting "c_28591.nls"?

By the instruction of someone I deleted the C_28591.nls, now yahoo inbox page and many other web sites not display properly.

I edited the registry by deleting "c_28591.nls"?
Well I guess you learned the hard way that you should NEVER EVER delete anything from the registry without backing it up and knowing what you are deleting and why. you reallyonly have 3 options.

1. run system restore to a point before you deleted the file, and hope it reverts the registry back (usually once you delete a registry entry its gone for good)

2. reinstall the operating system and rerun all the updates either via a repair install or clean install. Note: if you do a clean install you will lose everything, so back it up first.

3. try reinstalling IE by going to the add/remove programs.....check the list and uninstall anything related to IE go to the add/remove windows stuff and uncheck IE, reboot and the go back and recheck it reboot again and then go to microsoft update to reinstall IE again....hopefully what this will do is rewrite all the registry entries necessary for it to run correctly.

Now the file you deleted can either be related to IE or Outlook express, doesn't matter, still try "undoing" what you did by redoing what you didn't

My son delete a file on my computer. The file is C. How can I restore it back.?

I need help bad. What are the steps to take.

My son delete a file on my computer. The file is C. How can I restore it back.?
You should use the system restore program if its xp. Go to Start%26lt;all programs%26lt;accessories%26lt;System tools%26lt;system restore.

select restore my computer to an earlier time and click next. A calender will come up and click on a date that you know the file was on the computer and click next. the computer will restart and hopefully the file will be where it was at that date. Before you do this make sure that you put any files that you made after the date you went back to on a disk or pen drive or something or you will loose them :)
Reply:The file name is "C"??? Or do you mean Drive C:, where Windows is usually installed?

If your PC won't even boot into Windows, it's drive C:.

If he deleted everything from drive C:, you'll have to re-install Windows. Read the PC User Manual for the step by step instructions.
Reply:Try your recycling bin!
Reply:What is C.? He deleted a file called C with no file extension? I am not aware of any system files or folders called C

My drive c has 0 free space people tell me to delete old files I am not useing but i still dont get and free?

go to my computer, right click local disk (c:) go to the bottom and click properties and click disk cleanup.

My drive c has 0 free space people tell me to delete old files I am not useing but i still dont get and free?
It's amazing how much space you can gain on your drive by doing a " disk cleanup" %26amp; "Disk Defragmenter ". I did that %26amp; I gained a lot of extra space. Go to ALL PROGRAMS %26gt; Accessories %26gt; System Tools

%26gt; Disk Cleanup %26amp; Disk Defragmenter . Do the Cleanup, then the defragmentation. The defragmenter is the one that gets you the most extra space, because over time, when you download things, there isn't room all in one place on the drive to write the program, so it puts parts of it all over, or it " fragments" the program. After the clean -up, which compresses old %26amp; hardly ever used stuff on the computer, then the defragmenter can gather all the parts of the programs into one place, thus speeding up the computer, because when you go to bring something up, it doesn't take as long to find it, thus it's faster.
Reply:How big is the hard drive, ie, how many gb? If it's actually full, it would take a lot to get it to show any free space.

You must have a lot of stuff on it, or it must not be a very large drive.

My suggestion would to get another drive and install it, or have it installed.
Reply:on the start menu click run,and type just the way you see it here c:\Documents and Settings\user name here\Local Settings\Temp then press ok;;;this foder contains old pass items;;;it is safe to delete everything ..this will give you some extra space until you figure out what to do.

How do I become the administrator of a windows me - it says I can not delete kennel8 that is a virus b/c I do?

not have the authority! have went to control panel and to users and entered my name and pass but how do I make myself the admin.?

How do I become the administrator of a windows me - it says I can not delete kennel8 that is a virus b/c I do?
reboot your pc and as it is starting up press the F8 key

choose safe mode and you should be prompted for login

login as Administrator

the person who installed your copy of windows should have the password

it is also a lot easier deleting infected files in safe mode

Im using avart antivirus and it detected a virus called C:/WINDOWS.MEMORY.DMP, is this safe to delete?

I have Avast! antivirus also (Avast Home 4.7), and just ran it this morning. I routinely delete any viruses it identifies, and have never had a problem attributable to no longer having the infected file on my computer. I would rather do a system restore to the factory settings (or the less drastic version which keeps some of the software you've installed) than keep any infected files on my computer.
