How can you clean your C: Hard disk for more memory space but you don't want to delete any programs?
First, I presume we're talking about Windows here, XP most likely? Detailed answers will vary based on your operating system and what version you have.
I felt compelled to mention that first, since my preferred system of choice is Mandriva Linux.
Okay, now that we've got the clarification out of the way...
1) Make sure that you don't have some sort of virus gobbling up disk space without you knowing it. Run a full disk scan with your favorite anti-virus utility. If you don't have one, I recommend ZoneAlarm.
2) Run the disk cleanup utility. This may or may not help, depending on what exactly is taking up the space on the hard drive.
3) If you've got a CD or DVD burner, look through any files that you've downloaded that are taking up a lot of room, and burn them to CD or DVD. Make sure you label your discs carefully because it can be easy to lose track of what files are where if you've got a lot of them.
4) Keep an eye on the pie chart for your C: drive in My Computer.... once you've got at LEAST 10% (20% is better) free space, THEN you can effectively run a disk defragmenting utility to get more space on your drive. But disk defragmenting won't work unless you've got some free space for the files to be shuffled around in a better order.
5) Consider getting a better defragmenting utility than the one that comes with Windows. Paragon Disk Manager is my favorite. Diskeeper (the full version) is also a good choice.
Reply:Click on control panel, then click on system tools.
Find disk clean up. That will clean up your hard
disk and compress files so you can free up space.
Reply:go to disk cleanup and cleanup your hard drive
and delete unnecessary softwares and files
Reply:Go to start on your computer, go to system tools, click disk clean up.
That should do it.
Reply:Defrag your drive that will clean up some disk space, also back it up and then get rid of old files you don't need anymore.
Reply:From your explanation, it sounds like you have a low memory (RAM) not your C: Hard drive (ROM), but if you insist, then you can do this. first you never state the kind of operating system you are using and the version. However base on windows 95 to windows XP, do this, in the FIND or SEARCH box type *.tmp (make sure you check the subfolder box) then select all the files listed and delete them. secondly type *.chk, select all files listed and delete them, then empty the recycle bin.
Reply:download ccleaner...and run it..i promise no virus...it deletes sooo much junk. when i first used it. it removed almost 2 gb of junk. and try defragmenting and disk cleanup utility if u havent already
sweet pea
