I can't delete column A without it deleting Column B b/c I used =proper(a1) to convert Acells into proper in B

I have a spreasheet full of capitals, I've managed to create a new column (B) and used =proper(a1) in the cells in Column B to copy those from A. I now have capitals in A column and proper case in B column. I've tried to delete A column, but it deletes B column as well...How can I hang on to B column and delete A?
