The Software Distribution folder in drive C/%26gt;Windows is consuming huge space in my harddisk and I noticed that it only includes already installed updates for my applications or softwares. I'm thinking if it's safe to delete these sub folders under Software Distributions to free up my harddisk?
Is it safe to delete the sub folders in Software Distribution folder in drive C/%26gt;Windows?
If you are talking abou the SoftwareDistribution folder that is in "C:\WINDOWS" then it belongs to Windows Update, and it's safe to delete. Here are some instructions on how to delete it...
Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully stopped before we try to delete folder.
2. delete the folder, and empty your recycle bin.
3.Click Start, click Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Type the command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to restart the Automatic Updates service. Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully started.
Just to let you know, i don't work for Microsoft, nor do i know exactly how Windows works, so if you screw up, it's all on you. though some of the info. i gave you came to me from Microsoft® Support...
