Is it alright to delete the log.txt file located at C:\log.txt. Thanks?

I tried deleting that on my computer and now it keeps freezing up. I talked to my professor at school and he said that Windows XP needs that file to boot up. So now I am afraid to even shut off my computer. DO NOT DELETE THAT FILE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
