How do i delete stuff from my C drive to have more space?

i only have 85% on my C drive and i have an external drive. i want to make more space and move programs to the external.

You absolutely do not want to delete anything off of the C:\ drive unless you've got a really good idea of what it is and know that it's not harmful to delete. For example, you probably don't want to delete any .dll or .ini files. Just don't do it. =)





Now, what I do, is go to the Start menu and then Search. I choose to search for All Files and Folders. Then I do an Advanced search and look for files over 1MB in size. Let the search run through. You may find a bunch of music or videos that you forgot about and no longer care to have. If you DO want those files, move all of those to your external drive. They can still be run from there. Otherwise, delete them.





Then you can search for all .tmp files and get rid of them. Also, delete your cookies through your web browser's options menu, as well as all offline content. Make sure that you empty the Recycle Bin often.





Finally, go into C:\Documents and Settings and delete any user profiles that exist on the computer that are no longer in use by anyone. If there is a possibility that there is data in there that they will need, make sure you scour the folders in an attempt to find it.





As to programs, which can also take up a lot of space, go into the Control Panel (through the Start menu) and go to Add/Remove Programs. Search for programs that you know you no longer need.

Reply:go into your file marked my computer look for all the drives when you find local drive (c) open and highlight all things you want removed.then run a disc clean up and defrag on your computer then when done reopen the file and if empty it worked .

Reply:You can't run applications off of an external drive. Sorry. You can try to delete things from your C drive and make sure that you empty the recycle bin often.
