Can i Format my Disk Drive C:?

Hello!

Here is my question... I wanted to format my drive C:, I have ALL my files in Drive E: now, But the reason why i came here to ask was would my Drive C: still be able to run correctly? Would formatting it DELETE my C:\WINDOWS\ folder? If this folder is deleted, Would my computer able to run correctly?

Basically, Thats like the only folder on my C: Drive.

So please let me know if it is safe to Format my C: Drive without causing any problems!

Thanks Yahoo members for taking your time to answer my question, Much appreciated!

Can i Format my Disk Drive C:?
you can format it, however, your computer will not run correctly. formatting C will leave you with no operating system. To view/use your files on E you NEED an operating system.
Reply:Formatting will destroy all the files on on the C: drive, you will then have to reinstall windows and any other programs that you had installed
Reply:Don't format the C drive. You wouldn't even be able to load Windows.

Reply:When you format drive C: you are erasing everything on the C: partition which means you wouldn't have command prompt or windows or anything. Usually you format if you are going to reinstall windows. Don't worry about it if you aren't going to reinstall windows. And yes windows cannot run without the windows folder.
Reply:Put the Operating System CD in the computer and then restart your computer. Press a key when they tell you to. Then you can reinstall Windows XP. Make sure you select Drive C as the hard drive to install on. It will be formated and you will have a fresh new start. Drive E will be how it is.

Good luck!
Reply:When Windows was installed, it installs the files on the System Drive into a Windows Directory (provided your system is working fine, this is environment variables SystemDrive to check these you can view them by running CMD and set Sys.

By default this is C:\ . If you format the system drive, you need to reinstall the operating system and all the applications. Any other files whether data, configuration, profile or any other files on the drive you format will also be erased.

If this is a problem, then dont do it. IF you have a problem with Windows, or applications and know how to reinstall Windows, then this is why you would format the system drive.
Reply:dont format it... you need to move WINDOWS to drive E:/ and tell your pc's BIOS to boot from drive E:/. then, you can format C:/
