My personal information on the p.c. Help!?

Is there something I should do before getting rid of my p.c. to delete my personal information? If so, what do I do?

I want to be sure my banking info., etc., is totally off before I donate. Thanks!

Oh... a friend said to hold a magnet near the hard-drive to delete info. Any comments?

deleting the information on the drive is not enough, as it can be recovered with the right tools - even if you format the drive.

if you are throwing the pc away, then I'd remove the hard drive and physically destroy it, its the best way to be 100%.

not sure the magnet method would be that effective on a hard drive, but by all means give it a go.

Personally, I'd take the drive out and take a large hammer to it.
Reply:format your hard drive
Reply:I sugest take out the hard disk and with magnet , go throw it all the hardisk, if the hardisk is damage u dont have to worried about all ur information u had on that.

no way of recovery it now.
Reply:Reformatting your hard drive will remove your information..sure, military experts could still access it, but unless you are a millionaire, it is a moot point. Your trash can probably contains more data than that.
