Computer Drives C: and E: - Both main hard drives?

Ok, I originally had a C: hard drive (duh) and it was glitched so bad all I could do was DOS. Well somehow I installed/made a new hard drive my computer calls E: drive. It is my hard drive and I've been using it for about 2 yrs now. What I wondered is my C: drive says its 128 gb but my E: drive is only 21 gb???! How can I delete C: and make E: drive my C:?? I need to get back my missing memory. :(

you probably partitioned it, you need to run windows installer (insert cd, reboot, press any key) delete all partitions and start fresh. partitioning divides your hdd like a pie, into smaller virtual ones.

if you didn't actually go out and buy a new hard drive and install the hardware, then yes it was partition and you will to repartition. best way... back up data and click the link above.

I partitioned my hard drive this way: (250 gb hdd)

you can select the different drive letters once booted into windows with the disk manager (right click my computer%26gt;manage)

c: is 110GB

m: (for music) is 100GB

z: is 20GB for downloads

rest is reservered because you don't ever get what they advertise in disk space.

This way, my media goes in my m:, downloads and files goes into z:\ and if something goes wrong with windows I can reformat that partition (c:\) and all the other drives are intact.

I don't think with windows xp setup you can merge your partitions into 1, that's beyond my knowledge. now that you know this, try reposting another question. like: how do I repartition my hard drive and keep my existing data. they will more then likely suggest partition magic, which you will need to open your wallet up big time so just get a few CD's and burn your data onto that, delete your partitions and create one giant one. settings will probably be lost unless, you pay for norton ghost and create a image of your pc.

also try gparted. just download and use imgburn to burn it to a cd and restart. it's free.

Reply:First off you haven't lost "memory" (that's RAM) you have lost "storage"......

you can either: get a new hard drive (catch one on sale and they are not too expensive)..Install it as a "SLAVE" and use the software that comes with it to transfer the info on your "E" drive to the new one. Then reconfigure your NEW drive to be the master and the OLD drive to be the SLAVE and reformat the old drive. (It's NOT as hard as it sounds there is a small "Jumper" on the hard drive you move to change the configuration.)

OR:

you can just reformat you old hard drive which will wipe out everything on it and start over..if you have all the discs you need to reinstall everything. You may Email me it you have further questions about this.....
Reply:I recommend you a technician
Reply:Do need to delete anything.. just unplug the drive c: in your motherboard then leave your drive e: turn on the computer then open "My Computer" your OS will automatically change your previous drive e: to drive c:
Reply:unplug the c drive from motherboard and switch the hard drive cable with e drive

Reply:Unplug the c drive from your motherboard and the e drive will beecome c drive automaticily. If you don;t know what your doing, ii recommend an electition.
Reply:You have probably installed the E: drive on the recovery partition used to repair the installation. This will have destroyed the recovery partition. You now need to backup your data and do a complete new install. Make sure you have all your driver installers before you do this. You should have run a repair install from your OS disk. This would have fixed the original problem.
