wow.... you better ask a person who you know is a computer expert on this, rather than people on this site who just might claim to be.
Reply:type FORMAT C:
Reply:Before you go through all that, try a simple "repair" install of Windows. Just follow my instructions below.

REPAIRING OR REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

Turn your PC on and insert the Windows XP disk into the CD/DVD drive.

Reboot/restart the PC. This will cause the PC to boot from the XP disk and not the hard drive..

Allow the PC to run the boot up sequence. It will stop at a “black and white” screen and there will be an option to select a “repair” installation or a “full” installation.

NOTE:

If you simply want to repair/fix any and all corrupted and/or problem XP files select the “repair” option. This will only rewrite the XP files and will not affect any of your personal files or software on your PC.

If you want to Format the hard drive and rebuild it completely select the “full” installation option. Be aware that with this option you will “erase” all the files and software on that hard drive.

Select either the “repair” or “full” installation option and simply let the software run. Follow any onscreen prompts that may appear, especially during the “full” installation.

Hope this helps.
Reply:No, you cant as the DOS you are using is within Windows, it wont allow you.

To reinstall fresh, pop in XP CD, and choose to delete or format the partition during install will do that for you.
Reply:Type in "format C:\" that will completely erase and delete anything on the C:\ hard drive. All programs will be lost all data will be lost. If your O.K. with that then that's the way to go.
Reply:No. It would take a lot more typing than I'm willing to do to explain this, so here is a link.
Reply:Your best bet is to get your reinstall disks that came with the computer. Straight up deleting Windows through your dos prompt is likely to cause some problems. When you restart your computer, hit F8 as it loads. This will launch config and disk settings and will help you reconfig your computer and reboot windows, without mucking up your partions, etc.
Reply:you have to re format.. at c prompt type

format c:\
Reply:The command would be "format c:" (without the quotemarks)

You should be able to reinstall windows after the format completes. If you're using a copied version of Windows XP, this may not help you, as the copy might be missing the DLL.
Reply:what kind of computer you have? If you have a dell i can help you reformat your computer to the orginal state in which you first bought it..i didnt have any cd's with my xp..
Reply:get Darik's boot and nuke to wipe out your whole harddisc http://dban.sourceforge.net/ as long as you have a boot CD and floppy you'll be fine PS bBACKUP ALL YOUR DATA
